What’s my purpose in blogging?
Lately I’ve been thinking about doing more writing. It’s
something I’m coming to enjoy more and more.. I’m not very good at expressing
myself verbally, but I’ve always found it easiest to express myself and what’s
on my heart through writing. When I write, it has a way of bringing more
clarity to my mind and heart. I don’t
know how long this blog will last for but I want my writing to be centered in
Jesus and what He is doing in my heart and life. I pray that this blog will
spur each of us, myself included, closer to Jesus and to godliness. That is
what I want the most!
At the end of the day, my thoughts and opinions don’t
matter. They won’t endure and most of
the time they are either selfish or just plain wrong. There’s a verse I love that
beautifully reminds me of the fickleness of me but points me to the One who
always has been, always is, and always will be.
“All flesh is like grass
and all its glory like the flower of grass.
The grass withers,
and the flower falls,
but the word of the Lord remains forever.” -1 Peter 1:24-25a
and all its glory like the flower of grass.
The grass withers,
and the flower falls,
but the word of the Lord remains forever.” -1 Peter 1:24-25a
One of the most freeing truths I’m learning is that this
life is not about me. I will die one day and my written words will go away. I
will be forgotten about. So, spending my life trying to preserve my name is
futile. Like the grass and flowers that can come and go so quickly, my life is
the same. The word of God is the only thing
that always has been and always will be.
We can try to ignore and discredit the Bible all we want, but still God’s
word and who He has revealed himself to be through it will remain absolutely
true and unchanged. To me, that is the most comforting truth in the world! It
means that God won’t ever wake up one morning and decide to change the way we
are saved through faith in Christ. He won’t ever change his mind about what’s
right and wrong- We are called to love because He is love. His affection for us
isn’t dependent on our behavior. He won’t ever decide to un-forgive us. He is
faithful even when we are faithless. Even when
God seems extremely distant, we can be sure that He really is so near to us
because that is what He has promised us. I find it hard to believe this
sometimes, precisely because it seems too good to be true. The beauty of who Jesus is in scripture will
always be- His justice and His incredible mercy.
Thanks for reading my first “official” blog. I welcome any thoughts or comments! I’ll try
to write fairly regularly and post some other things, like recipes and other
exciting things I come across. Hope you all enjoy the last long weekend of the
summer!
Love what you wrote! Welcome to the blogging world!
